the Sky

Some cities are implementing a new program at traffic lights. Cameras at intersections take pictures of the license plates of cars running red lights. Then the car owners automatically get tickets in the mail. The message from the police force is clear: “We’re watching you.” The same thing is true in many department and grocery stores—surveillance cameras keep an electronic eye on customers.

As powerful as electronic eyes are, they’re nothing compared with God. If you were raised in church, you probably know a few songs about God’s eyes being on you. It would be easy to get into the frame of mind that God is like a traffic cop or surveillance camera—just waiting to catch you being bad. Entertainer Mark Lowry counters this attitude. He tells his audiences that God doesn’t watch his people to see if he can catch them doing wrong; he watches because he is in love with his people. “God’s eyes are constantly on you,” Lowry exclaims. “He can’t take his eyes off you because he loves you so much.”
